Delta State commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, has assured the Delta Guild of Indigenous Newspaper Publishers (DGNIP) of continuous support from the state government.
Aniagwu stated this when members of DGNIP paid him a courtesy visit at his office in Asaba, saying the Okowa administration was set to build a stronger Delta.

The commissioner advised the body to agree on one leadership that would govern them instead of fragmentation, adding that factions would not advance the course of journalism or a stronger Delta.

Mr Aniagwu stated that government is interested in DGNIP strength which lies in their unity and support for one another.

The commissioner assured the guild that the division in Community Publishing Newspapers Body would be resolved shortly, stating, “It is an aberration to form a correspondent chapel in different cities in the state because we all operate on one umbrella which is Delta State.”

He promised that the result of the reconciliation effort would be for the good of Indigenous newspapers in the state.

Earlier, president of DGINP, Mr Femi Odonmeta, expressed gratitude to Governor Okowa for appointing  Aniagwu as the commissioner for Information and pledged the guild’s continuous support towards building a stronger and better Delta.

Odonmeta said the guild had adopted new strategies in its desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state, through a systematic synergy with the state government, agencies, parastatals, stressing that government support was required for recognition and motivation for the body to function at full capacity.
